UEP-CTE Workshop and Culminating Activity for Pre-Service Teachers

The University of Eastern Pangasinan - College of Teacher Education (UEP-CTE) has organized a workshop and culminating activity for Pre-Service Teachers, aligned with its objective of producing proficient and high-quality glocal teachers. The event, themed "Securing Innovative Role and Building Initiatives (SIRBI): A Workshop and Culminating Activity for Pre-Service Teachers," took place at CB Mall, Urdaneta City on May 2, 2025, and it aimed to enhance the knowledge of pre-service teachers through workshops while recognizing their accomplishments as completers of Field Study and Teaching Internship programs.
Dr. Raymond N. Claro, the Dean of the UEP-CTE, formally commenced the event with his opening remarks. He reflected on the initial nerves experienced by pre-service teachers during their BInnalon, highlighting their uncertainty regarding on-field learning. However, he emphasized that, with the support of the Teaching Internship Coordinator and faculty members, these students have grown significantly and are now celebrating the culmination of their Teaching Internship with pride. Dr. Claro reminded them, "When you become a professional teacher, regardless of your work environment, always remember you will have the opportunity to build lives."
Dr. Gloria C. Nemedez, Vice President for Academic Affairs, in her inspirational message, highlighted the significance of developing appropriate instructional materials. In her reflection on the theme SIRBI, she asserted that each student teacher possesses their own SIRBI (Purpose),
Before starting with the workshop, Mr. Cipriano Q. Mendoza, Teaching Internship Coordinator, presented the statement of the purpose.
Ms. Judelyn F. Custodio, then introduced the first speaker, Mr. Abelardo J. Caplis, who delivered a comprehensive talk on "Cover letter Writing and Job Interview Techniques." Mr. Caplis provided an in-depth discussion on the objectives of a cover letter, its effectiveness, key components, and the steps involved in its composition. He subsequently addressed the interview process, highlighting essential considerations for applicants during interviews.
The discussion concluded with a hands-on activity, allowing participants the opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge through simulated job interviews.
Moreover, the second speaker, Dr. Samson Nisperos, University Guidance Counselor, introduced by Mr. Isaac Norial, delivered a compelling talk on "Mastering Resilience and Smart Decision-Making in Your Job Search." He emphasized the critical role of resilience and outlined steps to cultivate it effectively. Dr. Nisperos shared a notable insight: "Always find learning, seek learning in every endeavor, whether in moments of failure or success."
In the afternoon session, the event proceeded with the third discussant, Dr. Lea C.Cacayan, who was introduced by Christine Jessa Dela Cruz. Dr. Cacayan presented the Guidelines on Recruitment, Evaluation, Selection, and Appointment of Teachers in Public Schools. Her presentation provided valuable insights to the participants, assisting them in preparing for their transition into professional teachers.
Following a comprehensive and detailed workshop aimed at equipping pre-service teachers for their future careers, the participants engaged in group presentations centered around songs, dances and participatory theories from the '80s, '90s, and '20s. The competition was intense, with each group delivering commendable performances. Ultimately, the Black Team, representing '90s dance, secured the first runner-up, while the Red Team's '20s participatory theatre claimed the second runner-up spot.
Further, the Field Study and Teaching Internship Coordinator and Practicum Supervisors received a certificate in recognition of their contributions during the successful Academic Year 2024-2025. Additionally, a culminating activity was organized for the completers of the Field Study and Teaching Internship program, serving as a testament to another milestone achieved by the Pre-Service teachers. Student who demonstrated commendable performance during their final teaching demonstrations were also recognized.
Also, eleven students have been nominated as candidates for the Pre-Service Teacher of the Year Awards and the Proficiency in Teaching Internship Awards. These candidates have also secured positions for employment at any branch of Stellar Kids Philippines as part of their awards. Hence, the Cool Edge Review Center has announced the top performers for the Mockboard Examination conducted on April 30, 2025. The distribution of awards is as follows: the top six received a 15% scholarship; the top five received a 20% scholarship; the top four received a 25% scholarship; the top three received a 50% scholarship; the top two received 75% scholarship; and the top candidate received a 100% scholarship to any branch of the Review Center for the Licensure Examination for Teachers.
In conclusion, eight students shared their inspiring experiences from their teaching internship journey. Following this, Mr. Cipriano Q. Mendoza delivered closing remarks, reflecting on their experiences that encompassed challenges and hardships, ultimately leading to cherished memories. He emphasiez that their achievements would not have been possible without the unwavering support of their parents. Consequently, he encouraged the students to express their gratitude by conveying to their parents, "Pa, Ma, kunting tiis na lang, malapit na akong maging isang magaling na guro."
